The signs your gutters are blocked
You often see the problem during heavy rain first. Water spills over the edge instead of reaching the downpipe, then tracks down the wall below.
- Water pouring over one section or joint
- Damp patches appearing on an inside wall
- Plants or moss growing above the gutter edge
- Dark staining down the brickwork
- A run beginning to sag under wet debris
If one of these shows up, the blockage has usually been building for some time.
What a blocked gutter actually costs
Overflowing water repeatedly soaks the same section of wall. Moisture can then reach the inside surface and appear as damp.
Water held against fascia boards speeds up rot. Saturated brickwork can damage mortar and lead to repointing. Replacing roofline boards or repairing a wet wall costs many times more than clearing the route the rainwater should take.
How it is done
A vacuum system reaches the gutter from ground level through carbon fibre poles. The debris is pulled out of the run rather than pushed along it.
Accessible downpipe tops are checked, the cleared runs are inspected, and the debris is removed from the site. Nothing leans against the roofline.
How often gutters need clearing
Twice a year is a useful schedule for many Oxfordshire homes, once after autumn leaf fall and once in spring.
Homes with mature trees or conifers nearby need checking more often. A property away from trees can often manage with an annual clear. The right interval follows the house, not a sales schedule.
